The event will take place from November 9 to 11 and will feature six thematic sessions, a historical review of the disease in Chile, and opportunities for exchange among academia, industry, and health authorities.

From November 9 to 11, the Wyndham Petra Hotel in Puerto Varas will host the first International Conference on SRS (SRS 2026), a groundbreaking event organized by the INCAR² Center. The conference will bring together researchers, professionals from the salmon industry, regulatory and health authorities, and representatives of civil society to address one of the main health challenges facing salmon farming: piscirickettsiosis or SRS.
The conference will mark a milestone as the first international event dedicated exclusively to this disease, creating an interdisciplinary platform to present and discuss the latest advances in its study, as well as to share new scientific findings, innovative technologies, and applied solutions for its control.
Scientific Program and Activities
SRS 2026 will begin on Monday, November 9, with an Ice Breaker activity designed for early registration of participants and to foster networking and interaction among attendees and speakers from the very beginning of the event.
The program includes six thematic sessions covering key topics such as Animal Health and Welfare, Environmental Epidemiology and Predictive Modeling, SRS Control Tools, and Technological and Biotechnological Tools for its control, among others. These sessions will provide a comprehensive perspective on the issue, combining basic science, use-inspired basic research, applied research, and industry experience.
One of the central elements of the conference will be a historical review of SRS in Chile, its current state, and the main health, production, and regulatory challenges it poses for the salmon industry both nationally and internationally.
Keynote Lectures and Final Roundtable
The conference will feature two high-level keynote lectures. The first will address the use of gene editing as an emerging tool for SRS control, while the second will focus on the socioeconomic impacts of the disease on the salmon farming industry, exploring its production and territorial effects.
The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion dedicated to analyzing future challenges in SRS control, promoting dialogue among academia, industry, and authorities, and seeking to advance toward more effective, sustainable, and collaborative strategies.
A Key Forum for Salmon Farming
According to the organizers, SRS 2026 aims to position itself as a strategic meeting point for those involved in research, management, and decision-making related to piscirickettsiosis—one of the most significant and persistent diseases affecting salmon farming in Chile and, in recent years, worldwide.
The event is supported by prominent media partners, including Medios AQUA, InfoSALMON, Mundo Acuícola, Partnerfish, Panorama Acuícola, AQUAHOY, and AquaFeed.com, reinforcing its reach and projection within the aquaculture sector.
