The event, organized by INCAR², will take place at the Wyndham Petra Hotel and aims to establish itself as a unique forum for scientific and technical discussion on piscirickettsiosis (SRS).

Official registration for the International SRS 2026 Conference will open on June 15, 2026. The event will be held from November 9 to 11, 2026, in the city of Puerto Varas, Chile.
According to Dr. Ruben Avendaño-Herrera, academic at Andrés Bello University and Alternate Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research – Applied Research (CIA-INCAR²), the conference “aims to position itself as a strategic meeting point for researchers, industry professionals, authorities, and decision-makers, with the goal of addressing the main challenges associated with piscirickettsiosis (SRS)—one of the most relevant and persistent diseases affecting salmon farming in Chile, and currently in the Northern Hemisphere as well as in Oceania—from a comprehensive perspective.”
The organizers highlight the conference’s pioneering nature, as it is the first event worldwide dedicated exclusively to the study and understanding of this disease, as well as the search for new alternatives for its control, reinforcing its relevance within the global aquaculture sector. “This first conference could become a recurring event held every two years, provided that the stated objectives are achieved—especially the development of a common language aimed at finding solutions,” said Dr. Valentina Valenzuela Muñoz, member of the event’s organizing committee and principal investigator at the INCAR² Center.
The conference program includes six thematic sessions covering key areas such as animal health, epidemiology, and disease control. It will also feature keynote lectures focused on emerging topics such as gene editing and the socioeconomic impact of SRS, along with a final roundtable bringing together representatives from the public sector, private industry, and academia.
Additionally, the organizers announced that institutions interested in participating as sponsors or partners can request information about collaboration opportunities by contacting eventosincar2@udec.cl.
